The Last Couple Months

I’m not even going to pretend. I’ve been a very bad mama and totally didn’t get Simon’s 2 month checkup posted until now. Yesterday, he had his four month and while I could try and fake a two month report, I’m just going to post the two together.  I’ll get better about doing these, I promise.  I still can’t believe that my little man is now 4 months old.  It just doesn’t seem like it’s been that long.

Two Months!

Simon-mo02At Simon’s two month check out, we found out that he now weighs a total of 13lbs and 13oz and is 23.25 inches long. In comparison to Ian, he’s much chunkier. *grin*  In fact, he’s a solid pound heavier, but only 1/4 inch longer.  It’s no wonder he seems bigger than I remember Ian being.  Needless to say, he is in the 90-95 percentile for his weight and the 50-75 percentile for his height. His head has definitely grown at 15-3/4 centimeters.

This was also his first appointment with vaccinations – Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Polio, Haemophilus Influenzae (type b HIB vaccine), Pneumococcal Conjugate, his second Hepatitis B, and Rotavirus. Simon actually took these really well.  I expected him to cry a little, but I think the look he gave me was better – it was one of those “what the hell woman”.  Thankfully, we didn’t have any issues with his vaccinations later either – no fevers or soreness.

Four Months!

Simon-mo04On Tuesday, Simon had his four month check up and something has changed.  First, let me say that Simon is now 16lbs 15oz and 25.5 inches long.  This puts him in the 90 percentile for his weight and 75 percentile for his height.  His head has grown and is now 16-1/2 inches, which is in the 50 percentile.  I know it doesn’t seem like there’s been a big change (other than his size), but this visit puts him smaller than Ian!  Yes, I’m comparing Simon to Ian in regards to his measurements right now and this time, Simon is 4oz lighter than Ian, but he’s an 1/2 inch longer.  I was thinking he was going to be bigger than Ian, but he’s either starting to level out or hasn’t been eating like he was.  I’m thinking it’s a combination of the two.

He received a second round of vaccinations – Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Polio, Haemophilus Influenzae (type b HIB vaccine), Pneumococcal Conjugate, his second Hepatitis B, and Rotavirus. Yes, these are the same ones as last time.  Simon took these pretty good this time around too.  He did get a bit red in the face from crying – really red – but the moment I blew in his face, he was fine.

Development!

The doc has been happy with Simon’s progress.  In fact, at his two month checkup, he was impressed with how well Simon could hold up his head.  Now Simon is a champ at it and we’ve already gotten him in a bumbo. He didn’t take to the bumbo at first, but he’s really starting to go with it more.  Well, it’s a bit more than that actually. I have the bumbo sitting on my desk, so whenever I’m at the computer he can sit up there with me.  He loves that.  Simon definitely loves getting the attention and he makes it known if he thinks you haven’t been paying attention to him.  At the same time, there are moments where he just wants to be left alone.  He’s fine with sitting in the bouncer and just watching what is going on around him.  That is one thing I’ve been noticing about the two boys.  Simon is being just as curious as Ian was, but he’s a bit more patient with it.  He’ll take his time to figure something out, but once he does, boy does he get the biggest smile on his face.

Yes!  Simon has totally begun to smile at things and it is so cute.  I love his little smile.

The thing that has been throwing me the most though is his obsession with the television.  When Ian was this age, he could care less if the TV was on.  Simon loves staring at the television.  He won’t just sit there and watch continuously, but he definitely has to look to see what is on.  Usually, during the times he doesn’t want the attention, this is what he wants to do.  We’re going to have to watch him around the TV I think.  We could put Ian in front of the set and he would be more interested in what we’re doing or the toys next to him.  Simon isn’t like that.

Jesse and I have been trying to get him to stand up a little, but he hasn’t been too keen on that yet.  He’s getting there, but he’s enjoying being the baby.

Ian has been so cute with his little brother.  He totally wants Simon to be big now so he can play with him.  Simon has been very patient where his brother is concerned.  Ian likes to get in his face, to get him to smile, but Ian has a very loud personality and Simon doesn’t always dig it.  But Ian is one of Simon’s favorite things to look at.  Whenever he hears Ian’s voice, he immediately starts to look for him.

Simon has started to stay in his clothes now.  He’s not outgrowing them as fast as he did a few months ago, which makes sense I guess.  He has outgrown all of his 0-3 month clothes.

The one thing we’ve been really slacking on with Simon is his tummy time.  He doesn’t spend all that much time on his stomach mainly because when he’s on the floor, Ian wants to be right there with him and that’s not always a good thing.  Ian wants to “help” Simon do things and tends to get in his face, which freaks Simon out.  I need to get him on his tummy more while Ian is in school, but right now, he’s not really happy on his tummy and we’re not pushing it too much.  I know we should, but we’re waiting for him to get a bit more body to him so he’s a little more durable when Ian’s with him.

One last thing – SLEEP!  Simon is still a little sleeper.  I’m loving it.  He’s falling asleep on his own and I haven’t had to do nearly the things I had to do for Ian.  It’s been fantastic.  He’s been really good about taking his naps too.  He’ll fall asleep on the way home from walking Ian to school and then again about 1pm.  Plus, anything that’s moving, he falls asleep relatively quickly.  Not so much on the walk to school in the afternoon (he knows his brother is just going to wake up him anyway), but every other time he’ll be out.  He’s my motion baby.  Swing, rock, roll with him and he’ll fall asleep so easily.  I’m waiting for this to end.  He is starting to stay awake longer between naps, but his naps are still pretty long.

I know I’m missing something, but it’s my fault for waiting so long to type this up.  I’ll be on time with his 5 month one and will have plenty of more to report, I’m sure.
